March 1--March 4, 2007

Eight powerful documentaries by gifted filmmakers, including an exclusive preview of Ken Burn’s new epic film, The War.

In March 2007, DOC Film Institute honored the legacy of some exceptionally gifted and insightful producers of war-related documentaries, tracing important works of non-fiction films with subject matter from World War II to the ongoing war in Iraq.

This four-day event began with a very special preview of Ken Burns’ The War at Castro Theater. Ken Burns was present to do a Q&A with noted author Thomas Sanchez.

Over the next three days at the De Young Museum, the show paid tribute to the legendary British filmmaker Humphrey Jennings, introduced by well-known writer and critic David Thompson, Screened Sergei Loznitsa’s Blockade, introduced by Tom Luddy, and James Longley’s Iraq in Fragments, introduced by Mark Danner. Renowned filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier introduced his masterpiece, THE UNDECLARED WAR
